Top DJ’s and Party Non-Stop: This is the KaZantip Festival!

KaZantip is a breathtaking music & dance project that has been held on the Black Sea coast in Ukraine for 22 years. It is the first and greatest open air festival of electronic music on the territory of the former Soviet Union.

The first KaZantip dates back to 1993 when it was opened at the cape of KaZantip in Crimea, on the abandoned building site of a nuclear power plant. Several years later the venue was changed and nowadays the KaZantip festival is annually held since late July to mid August, in Popovka village near the city of Yevpatoria, which is known as the former location of Black Sea Fleet airbase.

A unique mythological story was made up specially for the festival. KaZantip is not only a two-week long open air party, it is a utopian republic with its own president, government and laws. The main source of revenue is joy trade. To enter the republic one should get a viZa at the border.

A dozen of dance floors function at KaZantip 24 hours a day, all two weeks. Some of them are based right in the sea. You can hear all sorts of music there – minimal, trance, house, techno, drum’n'bass performed by the top DJs of Russia as well as western super-stars: Carl Cox, Marco Carola, Armin Van Buuren, Pendulum, Loco Dice, The Martinez Brothers are just a few to mention. At the night time the sky above the sea is lit by laser shows and fireworks explosions. During the day KaZantip visitors indulge in beach-related pleasures.

The festival is a great success. Every year over 100,000 joy seekers come to visit KaZantip.

A brief note on the history of Kazantip: The history of KaZantip started in the late 1980s, when Nikita Marshunok and his friends were looking for the best place to windsurf in Crimea. Finally, they got settled at Schelkino village. In a few years Marshunok comes back to the cape with a dozen of other friends, and in 1993 a large scale windsurfing competition was held there. Although, the project is now 22 years old, it was only in 1995 that the festival had a really modern sound. About 1000 people got together for having fun at that time.  Ever since the project gained momentum and soon it was considered as one of the greatest musical events in the world. The price of viZa for the first KaZantip was $10, and now it costs $270.
